Purpose
The engineering department is looking to add Surveyor 2 to the project delivery section. This position performs survey work, supervises survey personnel, obtains data and field measurements for office interpretation purposes, and performs calculations on survey data.

Responsibilities

  • Operates survey equipment in obtaining legal and regulatory surveys and data for landscape, preliminary, construction and built-up purposes on City Engineering projects, including making calculations and compiling detailed field notes.
  • Lays features for construction of roads, sewers, water, street lights and other city services.
  • Supervises, directs and trains survey team members.
  • Provides information and briefings to other engineering department staff.
  • Performs office work related to survey work.
  • Other team members help in performing their duties.
  • Answers regular questions from the public.
  • Drives a city vehicle to and from work. Other duties related to assigned work.

qualifications

  • Completion of Class 12, supplemented by successful completion of a one-year certificate in surveying from a recognized technical school.
  • Considerable experience in all types of city studies.
  • Demonstrated skills in the direction of survey personnel, survey calculations and use of survey instruments.
  • Valid BC driver’s license
  • Demonstrates independent judgment and initiative in actions taken in performing the duties of the position.
  • Exercises judgment in protecting the interests of the public and the City.
  • Prepares detailed field notes on research work performed.
  • Substantial proficiency in the use of all inspection tools and equipment.

Pay Steps – Hourly rate
Step 1: $33.57
Step 2 (6 months): $34.53
Step 3 (18 months): $35.60
Step 4 (30 months): $36.61
