We are looking for a busy kitchen assistant to clean, store, and maintain the kitchen and prepare food ingredients. A kitchen assistant’s tasks include, among other things, taking ingredients from the fridge, freezer, and pantry, measuring ingredients according to the chef’s instructions, and removing leftovers from customers’ plates, bowls, and glasses. Also, ensure that all work areas are properly cleaned.
To be successful as a kitchen assistant, you must demonstrate a good understanding of proper food handling and remove stale or spoiled ingredients from the refrigerator, freezer, and pantry. Ultimately, the exceptional kitchen assistant must be able to comply with all health and food safety regulations and demonstrate exceptional organizational skills to ensure the timely completion of kitchen tasks.
Kitchen Helper Responsibilities:
- Preparation of food ingredients for cooking, which includes washing, peeling, cutting, and slicing ingredients.
- Help the kitchen staff remove food from delivery trucks.
- Wash and dry all plates, utensils, kitchen utensils, and cutting boards thoroughly.
- Place all plates, utensils, and cutting boards in their places.
- Packing of pick-up orders, if applicable.
- Take out the bin, change the waste bags, and wash the bins.
- Mop and sweep the kitchen areas as needed.
- Preservation of ingredients and food in accordance with food safety standards.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Documented experience assisting in the kitchen.
- Food trader’s driver’s license.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to use kitchen utensils and equipment safely.
- Good knowledge of food safety standards and procedures.
- Strong communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
